Affectiva, a company with products that help with the recognition of emotions via facial recognition, started searching for ways to improve safety in the car.

According to the company, the possibilities of emotion recognition applications, such as facial recognition, for cars are endless. From detection of tiredness or over-confidence for driver safety, to the identification of whether the driver is paying attention or is distracted while driving. Based on these observations the smart car can then respond accordingly. For example, an alarm sounds if the driver becomes sleepy or fails to drive neatly between the white lines. According to Affectiva, such applications will improve not only traffic safety but will also improve our driving experience.
